Cross-Platform Capability

General Goodness

Sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference. A markdown editor for admin notes, presenter profiles shared between books, blogs, and events, a report of all your books, epub accessibility analysis, products most often bought together, or generating a short link. A long list of quality-of-life features built from real client feedback.

Admin Notes

Create or open an admin note directly from a book, blog, or event. Notes are private and internal — only visible to staff in the admin. Use them to keep track of important details, todo lists, coordinate between team members, or just jot down thoughts as you work.

  • Built-in markdown editor for rich text formatting, checkboxes, and WYSIWYG experience
  • Export notes to PDF
  • Pin a note to your dashboard for quick access
  • A note can be tied to a specific book, blog, or event, or be general purpose

Note: each order already has an admin-view only note field.

Author-Presenters

Author-Presenter profiles that can be shared between books, blogs, and events. Each profile has enough information to make both listing pages and detailed profile pages, with links to social media or personal websites.

  • Supports multiple pen names and a display name — perfect for authors who write under different names
  • Export an author, or a collection of all your authors, to PDF
  • Include ONIX contributor information for authors in the feed for book retailers and distributors
  • When an author/presenter is referenced from a book, blog, or event, the system automatically flags that author in the role
  • Upload square, hero, and social media images for each author with automatic thumbnail and image optimization

Reports & Tools Home

While reports are linked to from many places, you also have a report home where you can see all available reports in one place. Each report card has a description of what it does and a link to open it or to the documentation for that report.

  • The home page dashboard is probably the most important report, as it automatically presents calls to action — missing book information, customer inquiries, approaching legal deposit deadlines, tax registration thresholds approaching

Configuration

Fine-grained site-wide configuration with sensible defaults. Configurations are organized in an accordion by category, with a search function to quickly find the setting you need. Each setting has a description of what it does.

  • Hints for Blogs, Products, Books, Authors are granularly set for each type for creative display options on your website
  • Override default global out-of-stock behaviors on a per-product basis — not tracked, allow backorders, or disable purchase
  • Some configurations include guards to prevent accidentally configuring your store in a way that would cause problems
  • Quickly add your SMTP or Exchange credentials to connect your email provider for transactional email — supports Google, Apple, Microsoft, Zoho, etc.
  • Hooking up Stripe, Xero, and Zoom is as simple as clicking a button, which brings up a secure OAuth flow directly with the provider
  • Manage SEO settings for static pages individually — meta title, description, Open Graph fields and image
  • Configure and select between multiple shipping providers independently for domestic and international shipping

Image Management

The platform includes a built-in image management system — smart at optimizing images for web delivery including converting to WebP format. It detects and knows how to handle different types of images, such as text-heavy images, and optimizes accordingly. Images are stored in Azure Blob Storage with a built-in CDN.

  • Hash blurs auto-generated for each image — placeholders while the full image is loading
  • When a hero image is uploaded, the system automatically creates a social media image in the correct size if not already uploaded
  • Header tags optimized for CDN delivery
  • Products standardize on 1:1 aspect ratio images. Upload gallery film strips of images for use by a product.
  • Author/presenters have separate Square, Hero, and Social Media images with automatic thumbnail generation and optimization
  • Universal images can be used anywhere, with handy buttons to copy the URL or entire image tag including hash blur loading
  • Image Browser and Copyright tool makes it easy to manage copyright information for each image, including references to how permission is granted when you do not own the image
  • Host an image usage and licensing page on your website with a form for users to request permission — handle requests through the admin
  • Built-in image metadata viewer allows you to view all embedded image tags for any of your images
  • When uploading an image you have the option to include copyright information embedded into the image, preserved through the optimization process

Help & Support

The admin has built-in help with full text search and PDF export. Contextual help is included on each page. A nicely formatted API document is available to developers for creating headless websites that consume the API. A full developer website is in the works with guides, API documentation, and production-ready sample website templates.

  • Full text search. Export latest to PDF for offline reading (link at bottom of sidebar).
  • Support includes ability to grant SilverEarth support staff secure temporary time-limited read-only access to your admin (excludes sensitive data) — with the ability to revoke that access at any time. Each session is logged.
  • Each tenant can download a full export of all of their data in JSON format, which they can keep as a backup or use to migrate to another platform. User password hashes, customer password hashes, and sensitive API data excluded for privacy reasons.
